Little Monster: Shall I Name Him Ghost?

Before I learned how to crochet for the sake of amigurumi, I’ve thought of starting my little monsters line. I think little monsters can be cute and adorable, although not everyone likes them. This week, I decided to start on this collection. 🙂

The purpose of this week’s exercise is to play with tension. The previous amigurumis I made had a hard body. This can be attributed to the following factors: 1) I was using cheap acrylic yarn and 2) my tension is too tight.

I wanted to figure out on my own on how I can make the soft huggy type amigurumis. I used a better yarn this time (still acrylic, but not the cheapest of its kind) and I also played with my tension.

The experiment began at the base of the body, wherein I used my usual tension (tight).

After completing 3 rounds or so, I adopted a pattern that would allow me to loosen up my tension without struggling.

The end result is that I have a hard body base but a soft torso (length).

Here’s the pattern:
Body
MR (SC x6)
INC around (12 stitches)
INC, SC around (18 stitches)
SC x2, INC around
SC around x9

Foot
MR (SC x6)
INC around (12 stitches)
INC, SC around (18 stitches)
*for wiggly feet
SC, CH 3x, SC around

Once done, sew both parts together. Make sure to place the details of your little monster’s face before stuffing it in and closing it. Enjoy!
